- Business Arising
Under new business
- New TSR roles and succession time-lines
-Richard Pinnell will assume the role of Chair of the Committee; Vera Fesnak will continue to be the recorder. Ron Ward will continue to solicit budget figures for the TSR budget. The term of office will be for 1 year on a rotational basis. Don Hamilton, WLU joined the group. The team will now have an equal representation from each Tug location.
- Budget and review discussion
-amount budgeted under 2. & 3. of system upgrade/maintenance may not be enough. The directory server, software that controls authentication is no long supported through IBM. The old disc was installed the new server did not work. Before the budget is submitted, Gail will find out the cost of a directory server.
- the amounts budgeted under Staff support is too high at least for the coming year. Staff time is spent on maintenance and not much on the side of development. It was agreed to change these amounts to: 50% (UW); 40% (UG)
-if the situation changes, assistance for more financial support will be put forward to TUG Exec.
-$4,000 allocated for training is sufficient given potential sessions for training in Cognos 8 or 10
- SFX reports
- Gail’s SFX Project
-Project is at a standstill
-Issue is with getting at the data; the use-stat data is an external server to SFX admin tables. When we get access, there will still need to be time dedicated to tabulating the data in SFX.
CARL/ARL stats run on calendar year, Tug data results are needed for fiscal year. The end result would be to use our own reporting tools that would run against the data.
- Scholars Portal Day
- the assessment element was very basic and perhaps too elementary
- Training discussions
-
The group will be cognizant of any webinars or training sessions for Cognos, Cognos user days.
- any training sessions offered by vendors for comparison to Cognos will be attended, eg. Actuate, BIRT related product in the near future.
- Cognos
- Concerning the Cognos client upgrade to 7.5 for any Windows 7 PCs
-Bill will try this out on a laptop that has 64 default bit. Gail has attempted to run 7.5 on an old pc but not on windows 7 pc.
- Production server install and test plans
- The group discussed the status of the production server for Cognos 7. We learned that we are facing yet another delay due to another incompatibility with the server OS and/or architecture, which although IBM stated was "compatible", turned out to not be the case. This issue was escalated from their system support group to another level of support for "defects".
Gail Sperling and her colleagues at UW IST have been our contact point on this, and Gail expressed she is not quite sure how much "push" she or the IST technicians can muster with IBM. Toward that end, Ron will send an update to TUG EXEC explaining the dilemma. this note is of two purposes, 1) to keep you informed of the progress - or lack thereof, and 2) to inquire as to whether or not inquiries from those higher up our chain of command (TUG Exec) to others higher up the UW IST chain could get more focus and answers from IBM. As you are aware, we've had this box since August and have encountered a string of difficulties installing IBM software on an IBM server.
-
We would very much appreciate your guidance or assistance in helping to move this project forward.

- Alternative method being used to update the cubes and the implications
- No great alternative methods have been discovered
- archiving batches at the moment
